The International Association of Chiefs of Police

Pledges Its Support For ROADPOL Safety Days

IACP RSDThe International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) pledged its support for ROADPOL Safety Days.

The action was announced within a recently published list of resolutions adopted by the association. Among the grounds for the resolution the IACP indicates that ROADPOL Safety Days campaign provides activities and events that raise awareness of risks road users may encounter and promote safe behavior and the respect of traffic rules.

Message

The IACP further states that ROADPOL Safety Days’ key message is: „If each road user makes small changes to reduce their own risk and their risk to other road users, then together we can make big improvements“. The ultimate objective is to eliminate the number of people killed every day on Europe's roads, the resolution also acknowledges.

Relevance

The IACP regards the resolution in view of the last Global Status Report on Road Safety, released by the World Health Organization (WHO), which highlights that the number of annual road traffic deaths has reached more than 1.2 million and that road traffic injuries are now the leading killer of people aged 5–29 years with the burden disproportionately borne by pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. The report suggests that the price paid for mobility is too high. The IACP also clearly sees ROADPOL Safety Days within the scope of Stockholm's Declaration on Road Safety of 2020 plea for drastic action to put measures in place to save lives and meet the target to halve road deaths and serious injuries by year 2030.
